PH | 271 seniors in EMBO get cash birthday gifts from Taguig | MANILA – The city government of Taguig gave cash birthday presents to 271 elderly residents who reside in the ten recently transferred “enlisted men’s barrios” (EMBOs) on Thursday.

In Barangay Pembo, under the direction of Mayor Lani Cayetano, the August birthday celebrants received cash gifts in simple ceremonies.

Using the barangays’ list of social pension recipients, the initial list of 271 older citizens was confirmed.

Some people received their birthday cash gift at their doorsteps while barangay personnel distributed it from home to house.

According to their age group, senior citizens in Taguig received cash gifts ranging from PHP3,000 to PHP10,000 under this programme: PHP3,000 for those between the ages of 60 and 69; PHP4,000 for those between the ages of 70 and 79; PHP5,000 for those between the ages of 80 and 89; and PHP10,000 for those between the ages of 90 and 99.

After turning 100, recipients will start receiving PHP 100,000 annually and will do so for the rest of their life.

The City of Taguig was thanked by Guillermo Perez Jr., 72, of Barangay South Cembo for the monetary donation and house-to-house distribution.

“Ang aming cash gift po niyo dinadala sa amin sa bahay,” said the recipient. Thank you so much for being able to deliver our monetary gift to our house personally. Thank you so much),” he added after accepting the PHP4,000 in cash.

Adela Miranda, 86, of Barangay Post Proper Southside, has never before received a cash present for her birthday in the amount of PHP5,000.

Miranda expressed her gratitude to the local authorities and promised to use the funds to purchase rice and other necessities.

Along Sampaguita Street in Barangay Pembo, Taguig opened a one-stop volunteer centre where people who were not on the first list of senior citizen beneficiaries may go to have themselves listed and verified for their birthday cash present.

Inquiries and applications for social services, such as medical aid, support with funeral expenses, benefits for people with disabilities, and even questions about scholarships, are also welcome at the one-stop shop.

Additionally, Taguig offers free house-to-house delivery of maintenance medications for people with asthma, diabetes, and hypertension. (via PNA)
