PH | Church implores DSWD to shield 4Ps from politics | MANILA – The charity arm of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) asked the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Wednesday to make sure that the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will not affect the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Programme (4Ps).
Caritas Philippines head Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo said in a statement, “We need to make sure that the programme is run in a fair and sustainable way, and that the poorest and most marginalised people get the most help.”
He also said that the programme shouldn’t be used to further party goals, especially at the local level.
He said that keeping the program’s integrity is important because it is already well-liked and backed by Filipinos.
“We’re glad that people understand how important the 4Ps are,” said Bagaforo.
According to a recent poll by Oculum Research and Analytics, 91 percent of the 1,200 people who answered the questions back the government’s conditional cash transfer programme.
It also said that the results of a poll show how important the 4Ps are to the lives of Filipinos. (via PNA)
